Festival of St. Peter - Menton

During our short visit to Menton, France, we were exploring the quiet square outside of Saint-Michel Church. Out of nowhere, the bells started to chime and people began flooding out of the church doors wearing traditional maritime attire, carrying a plinth with a statue of Jesus on.

It was only once we'd managed to sit down for lunch that were able to work out that we'd managed to stumble across The Festival of St. Peter - a celebration of the sea, beginning with Mass before a procession down to the seafront.

All of these images probably won't make it into my ongoing France project, so I decided to share them here on my blog.

Pisa

My second short blog in not so many week. I have been keen to begin a black and white series in Tuscany for some time, so it was great to get the ball rolling with a short, one day stop in Pisa.

We stayed in an apartment round the corner from the Leaning Tower of Pisa which resulted in us spending most of our time wandering around the bars and shops in the vicinity and not venturing too far into the city itself. I spent most of my time watching tourists strike somewhat obsurd poses with the tower which I thought looked quite amusing when photographed slightly out of content.

All images below were taken using Kodak 400TX.

Cinque Terre (Five Lands)

Cinque Terre is a hotspot for photographers. After a week there, pretty evident that 99% of people were tourists, to the point where it make it pretty difficult to try and capture any locals going about their daily business.

That said, it's still a wonderfully picturesque part of Italy. With its hillside villages that seem to be perched so delicately upon cliff edges, you’d wonder how they don't just slip away.. During the heat we still managed to do lots of walking which enabled me to capture at least one I image liked from each of the five villages.
